While the skipper explains the history of the ship, the crew takes the ship to the locks. 30 to 40 minutes after you've embarked, we will have passed the Oranje locks and Schellingwouder bridge, and the sails are hoisted. We sail for about two hours on the IJsselmeer, with views of IJburg, Muiden Castle and the island of Pampus, which we shall sail around if the wind is favourable. While sailing, a snack is served on deck. Alcoholic drinks are served from 3 pm. After two hours of sailing we drop anchor at a sunny spot in the lee of the wind; in an instant we hang bbq's and tables from the railing and heap the tables with salads and sauces, Turkish bread and herb-and-garlic butter. Dining is on deck with a view of the IJsselmeer, with ships passing all against the backdrop of the hamlet of Durgerdam.

You could of course dine below decks, but you'll miss the view.

Rain doesn't spoil your barbecue-party; an awning can be rigged in a couple of minutes. It keeps you dry and cosy. After dinner we weigh anchor and head back. Coffee and candy are served while the ship passes through the lock.

5 Hours after you've embarked, the ship is moored at the IJplein, or if you prefer, behind Amsterdam Central Station.
